Makawhio River

Another shot from the amazing land that is New Zealand. This was taken in the tiny township of Jacobs River on the West Coast of the South Island about half an hour away from where i lived for a time. The town mainly centres around the school (which usually has about 8 students) and the picturesque 'Our Lady of the River' church.

Not the best of shots i know but it was taken out the car window while crossing the town's bridge - that's my excuse anyway...and i'm sticking to it! haha

Thank you all so much for your lovely encouraging comments. I am getting quite busy and am finding that i don't have a lot of time for both photography and maintaining this blog as much as i would like to so i probably won't be able to reply to each and every comment from now on but i promise i will eventually get around to visiting your blog! Very nice composition.. and I like that you can see the mountains/sky reflected in the river - and from a moving car! would have been nice to have the foreground more exposed... but that is my only constructive comment :)

@PD: good comment - the more constructive the better i think! I can see what you mean - i have looked back at the original and i think that i was in such a rush when I altered the levels a bit in Photoshop to make the sky exposure look better, that didn't realise that the foreground lost detail. Thanks PD!!

@grouser: actually.....I was! naughty i know! haha. but that is the beauty of the west coast - there's not many people and not much traffic!! though it was a one way bridge! hahaha

New Zealand is actually only my 'adopted' country - i am an Australian and living back home at the moment, though i am missing New Zealand terribly!!!! one day i hope to live there permanently! yeah it is a great place and i hope too that you get there one day! @JJ: Thanks JJ - i did have to crop a little of the bridge out of the bottom of the image but that is all, so yeah i was quite impressed i got the timing right to capture it like this - though the car was going extremely slow!

At first I thought it was another cloud picture and then I scrolled down to see the rest. Wonderful composition - love the clouds still, but also the rest. Nicely done, especially for being done on the move.

@Suzanne Cummings: yeah especially the west coast because the road only opened in 1965 and the area is pretty isolated from the large cities on the eastern side of the island by the Alps running down the centre so there isn't much other infrastructure. Thanks Suzanne!

Out the window? Great job from a moving vehicle. My eye is led right through the water and up the slopes of the mountain. Very nice.

Wow Kathryn I cna't believe this is out the car window I think its fabulous. Love the reflections. Knowing the west coast probably noone else on the road anyway.

@Joy: ok i think i know what you mean - so make it a landscape orientated image rather than portrait and just of the mountains??? Thanks for the suggestion!
