Boxing Day at the MCG

I love cricket! I have never been a sporty kinda girl and used to hate this game in particular ("it's so boring!!") but in the last few years have really embraced the slow building excitement inherent in the game. Now it is a kind of tradition that me and my Dad visit the gigantic stadium of the Melbourne Cricket Ground every year on Boxing Day to watch the first day of the cricket test. This image was taken late in the day while the fielding team (South Africa) swaps ends between overs. Though Australia ended up losing the 5 day long match (and with it the series!) it was a very enjoyable day and a great way to relax after the mayhem of the lead up to Christmas!

Thank you all so much for your lovely encouraging comments. I am getting quite busy and am finding that i don't have a lot of time for both photography and maintaining this blog as much as i would like to so i probably won't be able to reply to each and every comment from now on but i promise i will eventually get around to visiting your blog! Wow an incredible clear sporting shot my friend! Glad you enjoyed the game...I bet its quite relaxing! I have never been into cricket though my Dad was. i would have loved to have gone to a game with him. Nice one

What a wonderful sweeping and grand image of the game, the stadium, and the overhead clouds. Each element is clear and distinct in its own place. You avoid confuson and clearly establish what is happening. Nice job, once again.

@Graham Russon: Thanks Graham! yeah it was a good day and an interesting series - i guess you were happy with the outcome?!?! shame SA couldn't win the last test to clinch the No. 1 ranking though ey!?!? although i am not totally unhappy about that! haha. I just heard that Matthew Hayden has officially retired! it's a shame but probably inevitable...

Nice work for some eh???? Good on you Kathryn , love the image the broad sweep across the grounds to the stadium beyond, Very clear and crisp and well composed. Hope you and your father didnt get sunburned! I am afraid I feel like you did a few years ago about cricket. Have learnt to like rugby now though.

@Maxine: yeah i am very sun-conscious and the lovely clouds kept us in shade for most of the day thank goodness! I haven't seen much rugby because we don't really play it in Victoria, it is very popular everywhere else in Oz i think except here - it is never on tv or played locally or at school. it is a very weird! but when i have journeyed to visit relatives interstate i have seen a bit and liked what i have seen. I have to admit I never got into cricket, Rugby is more my sport, but you have captured the stadium and players beautifully

I have never really got into rugby because we don't really play it or follow it here in Victoria - everywhere else in Australia it is popular but for some reason not in my state - maybe because Victoria is where Aussie Rules Football started and so maybe that is why that is more popular... anyway.....

Even though I don't like cricket, I love this shot. Great composition. The sky is so big and dominant over those little players.
