bushfire #2Posted by Kathryn (Warburton, Australia) on 8 February 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio. Thank you all so much for your well wishes on yesterday's image. It was a scary night but for the moment we and our little town are safe despite being surrounded by 3-4 fires in fairly close proximity. We are still on alert with the cars all packed, ready to evacuate if we need to anytime in the next few days but for the moment the local weather conditions are quite calm with cooler temperates around 22C (thank goodness!) and just a light breeze - even a few drops of rain!! we have been lucky! We are hearing though some devastating stories of whole beautiful towns being wiped out in the hills just north of us (over the mountain pictured) and so far at least 65 people have been confirmed dead and at least 640 houses destoyed in the worst fire conditions that our state has EVER seen. The smoke in this image, taken from my decking yesterday afternoon, is apparently coming from a combination of about 3 firefronts still savagely burning just on the other side of the mountain. My admiration goes to the the unbelievably brave, courageous and selfless CFA and DSE firefighters that continue to battle these fierce fires in such hellish conditions in order to keep us and our lovely part of the world safe. Additionally, to the scum that may have intentionally lit some of these fires yesterday i hope that you get what is coming to you very very soon!! Thank you all so much for your lovely encouraging comments. I am getting quite busy and am finding that i don't have a lot of time for both photography and maintaining this blog as much as i would like to so i probably won't be able to reply to each and every comment from now on but i promise i will eventually get around to visiting your blog! Happy snapping everybody! Kaha the Kiwi has set off again on his journey around the world to see all of his AM3 friends. Keep up to date with his adventures on his own blog here. Safe travels Kaha and i hope you have a ton of fun! Thanks for viewing my photograph!
