wish upon a star...
Posted by Kathryn (Warburton, Australia) on 12 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.
With not one Urgent Alert issued for the first time since these fires began, firefighters are currently able to take advantage of milder weather conditions to concentrate on proactive operations such as back-burning and the creation of containment lines to help protect our precious water catchment areas and communities such as my own for when the weather is likely to turn more unfavorable next week.
So i thought i would take advantage of this much welcomed 'calm' spell to refreshingly post an image that is non-fire related. I took this image two nights ago as the Southern Cross star constellation and her two pointer stars were rising over my backyard during a break in the smoke haze that has been almost continuously been filling our skies of late. This is only my second attempt at night photography so any feedback/contructive-criticism is greatly appreciated.
Other positive news i have heard this morning is that the national/international Red Cross - Victorian Bushfires 2009 Appeal has raised a whopping total of over $50 million aussie dollars so far to help the victims of this tragedy. Additionally, one of the major commercial TV stations here - Channel 9 - will be hosting a telethon tonight with many Aussie celebrities from around the world taking part to help that figure climb some more.
Have you guys around the world been seeing that adorable image of the wonderful CFA volunteer-firefighter David Tree helping a koala, now nicknamed 'Sam', to drink from his water bottle? isn't it beautiful?!?! if you haven't seen it, check it out here. Koalas of course are wonderfully cute creatures from this part of the world but i have never seen one in the wild being so close to a human without being hostile and quite viscious - just one of the many devastatingly beautiful images coming out of this disaster that brings a warmth to the heart!
Thanks again for all of your kind and caring comments that too have brought a warmth to my heart over the last few days!
Thank you all so much for your lovely encouraging comments. I am getting quite busy and am finding that i don't have a lot of time for both photography and maintaining this blog as much as i would like to so i probably won't be able to reply to each and every comment from now on but i promise i will eventually get around to visiting your blog! Happy snapping everybody!
Kaha the Kiwi has set off again on his journey around the world to see all of his AM3 friends. Keep up to date with his adventures on his own blog here. Safe travels Kaha and i hope you have a ton of fun!
Thanks for viewing my photograph!
All feedback, especially constructive criticism is welcomed and very much appreciated. Enjoy your day!
