RAIN!!!Posted by Kathryn (Warburton, Australia) on 4 March 2009 in Documentary & Street. Wonderful news - It has been raining off and on for the last 24 hours here and is making a significant impact of the fires still burning in our area - YAY!!! it has been so so so long since we have seen rain (especially significant rain) that everyone is just so happy - especially the firefighters and plants!! I was so excited that i snapped this pic out my wet car window and was quite pleased with the captured effect. Yesterday's extreme weather was pretty extreme wind-wise but thankfully not as hot as expected and the fires magically remained within the containment lines that the emergency services have been working the guts out on for the last 3+ weeks since the fires began. We were able to return home today after evacuating on Monday and tonight we heard the wonderful news that the fire of most threat to us is officially 'contained' and that the likely hood of it breaching those containment lines is very slim as the forecast for the next week is very cool temps, showers and the 'good' winds for us. YAY!!!!!!!! We had hopefully our last community fire meeting tonight and were also officially told that we could unpack our cars! haha! after evacuating 3 times and having our cars packed for 3 weeks it is a wonderful feeling! The fire is still burning despite the rain and we need to recieve about 100mm of rain to put it out fully (we had about 20mm overnight) and hopefully the forecast for continued showers over the next week eventuates. Now that the situation is looking a lot better for our valley the majority of the emergency services, incl. the interstate and international firefighters that have been working non-stop in our area are now being deployed to other 'hot spots' in other parts of the fire area - a SUPER BIG THANK YOU to all the FIREFIGHTERS, POLICE, EMERGENCY SERVICES, SHIRE PERSONNEL, etc. and especially to the VOLUNTEERS for keeping our town safe!! and thanks to you wonderful AM3ers for your comments of concern and hope - they have meant so much to me! Hopefully now i can get back to posting more 'happier' images like this one and hopefully find some time to catch up on all your blogs! Thank you all so much for your lovely encouraging comments. I am getting quite busy and am finding that i don't have a lot of time for both photography and maintaining this blog as much as i would like to so i probably won't be able to reply to each and every comment from now on but i promise i will eventually get around to visiting your blog! Happy snapping everybody! Kaha the Kiwi has set off again on his journey around the world to see all of his AM3 friends. Keep up to date with his adventures on his own blog here. Safe travels Kaha and i hope you have a ton of fun! Thanks for viewing my photograph!
