Fox Glacier

Posted by Kathryn (Warburton, Australia) on 19 March 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

not the greatest photo ever but i thought i would continue to show pictures of the incredible landscape around the Fox Glacier in New Zealand. Deb has recently been showing images of the Franz Josef Glacier which is the other major Glacier found on the west coast of the South Island.
The walking path to the glacier lookout was washed away by this creek forcing all tourists, old and young, to venture upstream to find their own crossing. It was quite amusing to watch and quite an adrenilin pumping experience to cross yourself - although the creek seems quite placid, it was tricky to find stable unslippery rocks to plant your feet on. The glacier itself can be seen in the distance.
All of these high-grade Schist rocks would have been transported here by the glacier at one point having been ripped of the bedrock further up the mountains as the glacier carved its way down the valley.

Thank you all so much for your lovely encouraging comments. I am getting quite busy and am finding that i don't have a lot of time for both photography and maintaining this blog as much as i would like to so i probably won't be able to reply to each and every comment from now on but i promise i will eventually get around to visiting your blog! Happy snapping everybody!
