this rock formation is located out in the middle of no-where in south-eastern Western Australia (confusing i know!). The rock's shape has developed due to weathering and water erosion at its base while its colour is caused not only by water running down and disolving minerals in the granitic rock but also due to the different kinds of algae growing on it.
Thanks for viewing my photograph!
All feedback, especially constructive criticism is welcomed and very much appreciated.
yep I'm confused about the location but not about the fabulous photo what a cool formation

As soon as I saw the photograph, before the title, I thought of an Australian beach shot with a surfer running the gauntlet of a fiersome wave. Superbly observed and presented, Kathryn. Those colours are divine

@Manuel: Thank you!
Wow! this is another great example of the amazing feats that mother nature can accomplish. Kind of reminds me of a skateboard ramp, too.

That is just fascinating, incredible shot, and when I first saw it also reminded me of a skateboard ramp. Nice shot

Awesome! You managed to capture one of Nature's supreme creations!! Boy I'd like to see that in person.

@Nomad Flavor: yeah it is pretty impressive though this is about the extent of it! Thanks Nomad!
What an impressive place… Thank you very much to share it with us…

Cool place. I like the way you kept the sky in the shot for perspective.

Now that brings back some memories !
The Blue Tongue lizards.................
And yesterdays Nullabor shot.......days spent trundling across there at 50mph or less....
Great shot.
30 Jan 2009 12:02am
@Grahame: why only maximum of 50mph??? i must admit that we got up to speeds way higher than 130km/ph at one point!!! remember the road trains? now they were impressive! Thanks Grahame!
just another wonderful shot, and education along with it....perfect!!

@Susan: Thank you very much Susan!
yes i thought it looks like the Wave Rock from the thumbnail! a classic angle on this iconic site and great light to show off its amazing shape and textures... i will have to venture out there again - this time to take some photos as well...
30 Jan 2009 1:57am
@DarkElf: yeah it is pretty cool to see in person isn't it?!? though even for you it is still a fair way to travel! Thanks DarkElf!
Beautiful capture, looks natural, like nature has been beating up upon it.

Yowza! What an intersting formation and picture

I saw this on the map and in the tour guides when we toured WA but we had no time to get there. Do you know the dreaming story from this site? Thsi is well shot with a delicate play of sun light that neither over runs the shadow detail nor washes out the highlights. I saw similar shapes at Ularu made, in dream time, by the great Mother snake come to protect her young and her family.
I hope that I have this wee bit of dreaming is ssssssdqqqqqcorrect and that this is taken as a respectful appreciation of the culture.
30 Jan 2009 10:09pm
@Jed: I have no idea honestly! I am sure that there would be a dreamtime story based on this site but i have not heard it. I would love to get to Uluru one day to see the rock but also to witness the sky at night - were the stars super clear?
this is both beautiful and remarkable and you've captured it so well
31 Jan 2009 6:29pm
Why so slow.....you got it in one Road Trains....Poor ol trucks straining their pistons out to haul loads for days on end without rest.
Then there were the flash rigs that could break the sound barrier !
31 Jan 2009 11:46pm
@Grahame: hehehe! quite a trip isn't it?!?!?
I have never been able to get here but always wanted to... mother nature is an amazing thing in what it does... I have always seen/heard about this place growing up... great shot...
2 Feb 2009 12:29pm
@Fliss: yeah it is quite good to visit but is in the middle of nowhere and takes ages to get to so i was pretty lucky to get the chance to visit on my way to start crossing the nullarbor! it is quite fascinating to think of the time-scale and processes involved. Thanks Fliss!
Fantastic! To spend a little time thinking about the time and force necessary to create this is truly boggling. Wonderful shot!

@Chris Parr: yeah i know it does my head in!! lucky me i will start studying it in less than a month now when my geology course starts - i can't wait!! Thanks again Chris!

Seule Dame Nature pouvait sculpter une telle oeuvre !
Belle prise de vue.
Bonnes fêtes de fin d'année.

Such a lovely composition. At first I imagined some peculiar "wet" wave...
